I would say that this is truly a reflection of the poor educational system in the United States. Or would that be arrogance and ignorance about the world? My British friend BraN sent me this link and it’s quite disturbing and makes me want to take a geography course and a history course. Who is Tony Blair? How many Americans can answer this question? Sometimes I am grateful for my international friendships because they have made me re-think things. Like perhaps moving out of the United States….. How many sides does a triangle have? One. Yes one. Oh my….watch this!
This video makes me want to move out of the United States….very quickly. I’m very thankful that I have friends in other areas of the world…..they make me think differently about the scope of the world and the differences abound. I say this to my English bloke (who sent me this video link) and I refer to my friend in Canada as well. Apparently there are fools in America who think that Canada is across the ocean.Â
Sadly I could not answer “what is the currency in England?†confidently. I immediately wanted to say “pounds….not dollars†but had to go look. I have now found out that it’s actually pound sterling. But I was darned close.  I do know the currency in Canada because my friend Carla taught me about Loonie and Twoonie’s when I was 14. In case you didn’t know…..
Canadian money is very similar to that of the USA. There are a few exceptions however.
Coins come in the following denominations:
One cent (Penny)
Five cent (Nickel)
Ten cent (Dime)
Twenty Five cent (Quarter)
One Dollar (Loonie)
Two Dollar (Twoonie)
This video is quite disturbing. I do not know a great deal about politics, geography, etc But I could answer these questions and what is most alarming and disturbing is that these people being questioned did not want to admit ignorance. Tony Blair is Linda Blair’s brother? Ha! So not funny though. Palestinians and Israelis’…which one is throwing the rocks? These are statements that are very sad.
And for the record I do know what a mosque is. It is where Muslins pray. I do know there is only ONE Eiffel tower. I even know that Jewish people go to Synagogues and do not collect money because they do not think it is proper to carry monies on holidays and Shabbat. I know that monies are raised via membership dues paid annually, and or voluntary donations for reserved seating etc.
I am one of those rare Americans that read books. I read for entertainment but mostly for understanding. I read because I am not arrogant enough to think that because I am American I am better or automatically knowledgeable.
I consider myself blessed for having met people that have made me want to learn about Judaism, Canadian law, Healthcare, computers, etc. etc. etc. I am blessed to be smart enough to say “I don’t know†to any question I cannot answer.
And I do know that the United States starts with a U.  Do you?
Haha! Very good! You know, I was dumbfounded watching this. I was sure that this was a somewhat sick, perhaps even twisted satirical comedy of some sorts made up by Z-list actors. What shocked me more was that there are people who admit they will follow their own president’s ideologies and if a President has opinions about a particular country (even one that doesn’t exist) they will follow those opinions. Incidentally, you are correct, the currency of the UK is the Pound. The correct term is the Pound Sterling but nobody says this! So Pound is fine! Or if you wanna be clever, just say “Quid”, as in “You owe me a million quid”.
