  1. Time enough at last

    July 6, 2007 by shishnit

When I was a child my father used to watch a lot of Twilight Zone and equally weird and odd television shows. I remember fondly one Sunday afternoon when my mother took my sister somewhere without the rest of us. My father and I lay around in the living room watching television on the console TV. I thought he watched weirdo shows and yet I remember the sun pouring into the living room and I remember my father eating bits of cheese while we watched, handing me pieces periodically.  Mostly I remember that feeling….it was rare in my childhood.

We watched the “Time Enough to Last” episode of the Twilight Zone. For years that storyline remained in my head, meaning 30 years now. Then this year on July 4th I saw the episode again. I was flipping thru channels and there it was. My first emotion was a longing for my now deceased father. My second emotion was that of excitement. Crazy as it may sound I could not ever recall enough about the episode to find it again. Now I have.

This story resonates so much for me, I recall then the feeling of having time enough to read forever and breaking your glasses. I wore glasses even as a child so I could relate even then. Now as an adult the story has so much more meaning. And it will forever remind me of my father.

I don’t imagine that I will ever have enough time to read every book I want to, or even every book that I own.  I have always imagined that heaven surely is an endless supply of reading material and tons of hot coffee and perhaps even an afternoon of television with my father.

  3. love of reading….

Back in December on a cloudy day I spoke to my grandmother on the phone.  I love my Gram.  I truly do.  She told me that my grandfather was upset that he was an old man who could not get around like he once did and yet NO ONE bought him anything for Christmas to read.

This struck something deep inside of me.

I wrote about my Pappy before on my blog.  I bought him a Jackie Collins book and then it sat around the apartment.  Then we moved and it sat around the new house until one day I found it and drove straight to the post office and mailed it.

Less than ten days later I got a thank you card in the mail from my grandmother.

We received the book on June 21st , our 60th Wedding Anniversary.  it was a nice surprise!  Pap has his nose in it ever since.  Thank you so much!  We love you. Sending our love to all.  God Bless!

This card brought the biggest smile to my face.  I think I gained my love of reading from my Pappy.  I’m glad I could bring him happiness with the simple gift of a book.  My grandparents are both in their mid 80’s and I’m so glad to still have them in my life.

Today I have 3 more books in a bag in my car. I’m going to UPS today to send them all to my Pappy.  Nothing makes me happier than to do this for him….  All those other family members in PA and they don’t buy him books?  Hmmm….that’s ok…I’m honored.

  4. saturday saturday long saturday

    July 1, 2007 by shishnit

It seems like in the summer my husband works a lot.  Then again this would be because today he went to work prior to my awaking (8:30 a.m.) and it’s now 9:34 p.m. and he’s still not home.  He’s working!  A LOT!

    I miss him.  A lot!

It’s good because he likes making all that money.  It’s bad because he’s been gone all day.

I got my hair cut and colored last night. I walked into a salon at the mall and said “can someone cut and highlight my hair?”  I got a resounding yes and took my chances on someone new.  I liked the outcome and I liked the someone new, she did a fantastic job.  Thank you hair gods.

    Here’s what I did today.

    1. watched tv
    2. missed Rick
    3. made lunch
    4. missed Rick
    5. took a shower

    7. went to the bookstore
    8. missed Rick
    9. bought two new tops at Ross
    10. missed Rick
    11. ignored schoolwork
    12. missed Rick
    13. wrote a blog entry
    14. still miss Rick

This blog entry has been sitting on my pc while I chat on Aim with the kid.  He just got home from vacation.  Hoorayy!!!

Rick got home around 11 p.m.  He’s soaking in the Jacuzzi.  Long day….poor baby.

Our house is fully painted now.  And my haircut is cute.  Both on flickr.  And I still haven’t finished the current paper…..and mostly I don’t even care.
