I win
Yesterday I took my son shopping for school clothes. He bought “skinny jeans” at a women’s store. There was a woman waiting for her daughter to try on the same pants. She asked me “Are you actually going to let your SON buy women’s jeans?” I glanced over at her and said, “Yes, and then later I’m going to buy him some female lingerie too!” She got up and moved away from me. I felt better when she left.
Some people have some major hang ups. I don’t care what my son wears, how he dyes his hair or whether or not people greet us as “Hello ladies” (as many of them did yesterday because he has prettier hair than I do.) I just want him to know he’s loved and accepted by Mom.

Honestly people need to get over themselves…seriously. I am glad that the two of you have such a close relationship. I say “if the jeans fit….wear them!”
Your son is lucky that he has a loving and accepting mom who realizes that things like what jeans he wears is about the last thing that matters.
Good for you! (And besides, male celebrities have been buying women’s jeans for ages…) All the gender-specific crap people throw around is so silly. I was just reading on another blog about how they let their young son wear dresses because he likes them (see #5 here: http://daddy-dialectic.blogspot.com/2008/08/10-questions-on-profeminist-fatherhood.html). I think it’s fantastic when people put their love for their children ahead of societal norms and their own egos.
Your son is very lucky to have such a supportive parent. Yay you. Yay him.
I wish people would keep their comments to themselves. And I hope that I’ll have the nerve to tell them what they think when they don’t. (I doubt I will, but I can hope!)
You’re a great mom…keep it up!
