where’s page 63?

I bought a book the other day at Target (*gasp* $11.96 expenditure!).  The book is/was “A tree grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith”.  A very sweet classic.  I read this book when I was about 13.  I recalled that I liked it then.  I decided to re-read it now.  Last night I got to page 62 and voila the following page 63 was missing and instead the pages weren’t going in exact order, something like this…

Ok so some pages were in different places and I could have manically switched around in the book but the problem for me became the missing page 69, the missing page 80.  After 87 it appeared that all pages were in fact present.  However, I read the wrong page first and it took me a few moments to figure out what was wrong with the story line as I skipped a page, etc.  I decided to take it back to Target and exchange it.  I advised the girl at the service desk (a woman who aged in at approximately 45) that the book was missing page 69 and possibly a few others, I showed her how the pages didn’t go in consecutive order.  She glanced at me and said, “Why is it increasingly harder to find 69?”  She busted out laughing and I stood there..not quite sure what to say so I didn’t say anything.

I got another copy of the book and I’m prepared to travel back in time with Francie, such a sweet ficitional girl.

Also too, FYI, if you call the customer service department of the publisher, they’ll mail you out a new copy of the book if you return the damaged one in the way they instruct (ripping off the cover, and something else). In case you ever loose your receipt.
