book meme

April 10, 2009 by shishnit

Because I’m trying to delay working on a paper for my first masters course I did this book meme I saw online somewhere.

What author do you own the most books by? Jodi Picoult is the single author I own the most books by because most authors that I read have only written one or two books or I have a few of their books but damned if I can remember their names instantaneously.

What book do you own the most copies of?  Alice in Wonderland.  I know I have 3 copies but I bet I might even have 5.

Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions? They did?

What fictional character are you secretly in love with? The dead husband from A kept man by Jamie Attenberg. I would highly recommend that novel because the entire storyline in it has stayed with me for months now and that’s the true test for me.

Which book have you read the most times in your life? A tree grows in Brooklyn.  I’ve read it about 6 times.

What was your favorite book when you were ten years old? Judy Blume  Peter Mack was pretty sexy when I was 10.

What is the worst book you’ve read in the past year? The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.  Total shit…and it got such great reviews. I hated it.

What is the best book you’ve read in the past year? The Reader.  Seriously I loved that book because it was a love story, pure and simple.  And yet it was so much more.

If you could force everyone you know to read one book, what would it be?  The Bible because it seems that so many people like to preach about a document they have never read.  Read it or shut up.  I haven’t read it but I don’t try to save anyone based on it either.

Who deserves to win the next Nobel Prize for literature? Who cares? When Nobel Prizes go to Al fucking Gore who cares anymore?

What book would you most like to see made into a movie? Infinite Jest, just so I can not torment myself about never reading any of the 3 copies I own.

What book would you least like to see made into a movie? Stop with the Twilight movies now please…you’re not doing a good job with it at all. I had to explain everything to my husband because the producers didn’t.

What is the most lowbrow book you’ve read as an adult? Sophie Kinsella’s entire Shopaholic series. Total crap really but I read it just the way you eat chocolates that are just slightly stale because they’ve still not gone bad. And I was sick and only had half use of my brain so it was the only thing I could stand to read.

What is the most difficult book you’ve ever read? Ulysses it’s a fucking buggar of a book and I have only read two chapters to date

Roth or Updike? Who? Oh and who cares?  I haven’t read a damned book by either of these people.

David Sedaris or Dave Eggers? Eggers.

Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer? None….I won’t pretend I read any of them.

Austen or Eliot? Austen.

What is the biggest or most embarrassing gap in your reading? Gap? As in what am I missing out on? Nothing. I don’t worry about what I haven’t read, I only try to enjoy the things that I do.

What is your favorite novel? I really don’t have one singular favorite that immediately comes to mind. I also hate this question.  A true reader doesn’t have a favorite because it changes with the wind as we read new things.  My favorite is always the last good book I have read.  Right now…it’s Duma Key.  Next week something else…

Favourite play? A Doll’s House by Henrik Isben

Favourite short story?  “A rose for Emily” by William Faulker, the one about the velvet Elvis painting by Tod Goldberg, and “Theft in a Pastry Shop” by Italo Valvino (its about 3 burglars who break into a pastry shop and get distracted eating all of the yummy pastries, talk about job satisfaction..yummy)  Also love Pet Milk by Stuart Dybek because of www.iwilldare.com’s jodie.

Favourite work of non-fiction? Still Alice by Lisa Genova..stayed with me like a ache in my soul.

Who is your favorite writer? I hate this question. I have no one absolute favorite writer.  Writer…oh wait Paul Westerberg writes and I love him.  I like Ali Smith and Tod G. and tons of other good peeps….

Who is the most overrated writer alive today? Danielle Steele

And … what are you reading right now? my first John Irving book and Bag of bones by Stephen King..I have a new King fetish….somebody save me!!
